What is Nutritional Therapy?
“People are fed by the food industry, which pays no attention to health, and are treated by the health industry, which pays no attention to food.”
-Wendell Barry
Nutritional Therapy is a type of holistic counseling that uses a foundational approach to wellness. It is based on the science that many of the current health problems plaguing people today are caused by impairments to the body’s internal systems as a result of poor or inadequate nutrition. By identifying the root causes of these foundational deficiencies or imbalances, Nutritional Therapy works to correct dysfunction and bring the body back into balance through targeted nutritional support and lifestyle modifications. The principal of Nutritional Therapy is a nutrient dense diet consisting of properly sourced and properly prepared foods in their whole forms. Building from their, the foundations to be addressed are:
Proper Digestion
Blood Sugar Regulation
Mineral Balance
Fatty Acid Sufficiency and Balance
Hydration
Together, these foundations play a crucial role in maintaining our body’s chemistry so everything can work the way it’s supposed to and we can actually feel good. When there are imbalances or weaknesses in any of these foundations, our health and wellness takes a toll. With Nutritional Therapy, instead of just looking at symptoms and chasing their effects, the entire body is considered. By addressing the foundations and restoring proper function to your body’s systems, Nutritional Therapy can guide you to optimal health.
Who can benefit from Nutritional Therapy?
Everyone! Nutritional Therapy is based on the belief of bio-individuality – there is no one-size-fits-all nutritional plan because we are all uniquely different. Through Nutritional Therapy the goal is to understand your body and its needs so that you can make educated decisions on what, when and how to eat as well as how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Nutritional Therapy shines a light on the connection between nutrition and what appears to be unrelated conditions such as fatigue, anxiety, inflammation, G.I. issues, stubborn weight, hormone imbalances, depression, and many more, and then treats your body’s foundations, not its symptoms, to restore balance.
Nutritional Therapy along with functional testing works to support and reverse these issues giving way to unlocking our true vitality.
A balanced body is a brilliant body leading to more energy, a better immune system, and clarity of mind.
What are Nutritional Therapy Practitioners?
A Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP) is a paraprofessional certified by the Nutritional Therapy Association, Inc.®, trained to evaluate a client’s nutritional needs, identify nutritional deficiencies, and support normal function. As a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, it is my mission to educate, guide and support you in using nutrition and lifestyle changes to live vibrantly. Together we will dig deep into the root causes of your symptoms and conditions to create an individualized plan that will restore balance in your body and strengthen the foundations of optimal health.
As an NTP, I do not diagnose or treat disease, but work holistically with the body and its foundations to restore balance and improve health. NTPs are not trained to provide medical diagnosis, to prescribe or treat any medical or pathological conditions, illness, injury or disease. No recommendations or comment made by me as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner should be construed as being medical advice or diagnosis.
